Beyond all historic relevance, this place has much more to offer. Nip in the air in late winters was enough to drive us through the day. Making its way through clouds, these sun rays when fell on the tranquil lake and the city palace, was a delight to watch. A prodigious and remarkable piece of architecture is the “City Palace” and to summate its beauty is the Lake Pichola and many other beautiful fort like structures surrounding it.

Visiting the City Palace, admiring the beautiful architecture, immersing in the history underlying it, was a unique experience and learning in itself. Jagdish Temple and Jag Mandir are within the walking distance from the City Palace.

The rich folk culture is symbolic of how colorful the state of Rajasthan is. Lehenga or chaniya choli in bright colors of pink, orange, yellow with dazzling silver trinkets makes the state as awesome as one can imagine. With Udaipur forts mainly in whites/subtle colors, this colorful surrounding is worth capturing.

Meenakaari ear rings, handbags, mojris, bandhani, linens, cushion covers, jaipuri wind chimes and other figurines are unique items to shop for in Rajasthan. Specifically in Udaipur, the closely held shops around the Jagdish Temple and Bapu Bazaar are depictive of Rajasthani artifacts.
Chai in Kulhads near Fateh Sagar Lake, lunch comprising of Gatte ka Saag, Bharwan Bhindi and Naans at Ambrai Restaurant and dinner of Kadi Pakode and Adraki Gobi with Paratha and Mocktails at Upre Restaurant were enough to make us feel “Udaipuri Samrats”.

From Ambrai and Upre, we could get captivating view of picturesque lake and of beautiful hotels (Jag Mandir, Lake Palace, Oberoi Villas) surrounding the lake with tiny boats riding through, keeping us enthralled while we enjoyed the food. More so, one should surely binge in Daal Baati which is the real taste of Udaipur at any roadside eating joints ;)
1. Ensure pre-booking for visits/dine to/at Jag Mandir, Oberoi Villas, Leela Palace etc. as these are on many occasions closed to public access on account of weddings/functions etc.
2. Avoid being looted by Auto waalas, you may as well book Ola Cabs/TFS as they offer better services at the same cost.
3. Do remember to bargain while you shop at Udaipur streets.
4. Udaipur shuts by 10/10:30 p.m., accordingly make arrangements for conveyance and dinner.
5. Keep winter wear handy for late evenings.
